Paul Donald (P. D.) Kline was born in Syracuse, New York. At age 2, he was adopted and his name changed to Chris Basher. Having taught English, Language Arts, and American Literature, Mr. Basher shared his passion for creative writing with high school and middle school students. He is quick to acknowledge having received far more inspiration from his students than he ever could have imparted to them. His career spans more than 40 years in nonprofit youth development services, including teacher, coach, athletic director, municipal youth bureau director, and Boys & Girls Club executive administrator overseeing literacy, academic enhancement, health & physical fitness, and character & leadership development programming for many thousands of youth ages 5 to 20.

Among his awards: “Spirit of Justice” (U.S. Department of Justice), “Contribution to the Profession” & “Horizon Award” (Boys & Girls Clubs of America), and “Greatest Teacher” (students of St. John the Evangelist School, New Hartford, NY). According to the author, more important than any award or recognition is the joyful purpose found in helping young people overcome what would steal their sense of self-worth, induce hopelessness, and stifle their God-given potential for good.

A passion for faith-based storytelling is evident in a previous children’s book, Finding Chloe, which also is published under the P. D. Kline pen name, as well as two books of poetry, (Spirit of the Adirondacks, Straining to Catch Every Leaf). A third book of poetry (Pea Soup) is published under his adopted name, Chris Basher.
